Health and Safety Month 2007
![]() |
"Opt for Safety in October" The ACT Health and Safety Month is held in October. All ACT workplaces are invited to join in with health and safety initiatives. The aim of the Month is to raise awareness of workplace health and safety issues by encouraging workers and employers to organise an activity with a safety focus in their own workplace, or to participate in events or activities conducted by others. |
What happened?
The Minister for Industrial Relations launched the 2007 Health and Safety Month campaign and Calendar of Events on 4 October (See 2007 Calendar of Events).
The Calendar of Events promotes a wide range of Health and Safety Month activities and events. The Calendar of Events is published in an Occupational Health and Safety feature supplement in the "The Canberra Times" and promoted through the ORS E-News bulletin.
Health and Safety Month Needs Involvement!
Businesses large and small, government agencies, unions, employer groups, industry associations, schools, professional and community groups and other key stakeholders are invited to participate.
Activities do not have to be time consuming or complicated – something as simple as a practical demonstration or a talk on a health and safety issue can really help raise awareness. Activities can be conducted internally, or can be open to the public.
ACT WorkCover provides an Information Kit which offers some ideas and suggestions for planning an event or activity for the Month.
Registered Activities
Events and/or activities were registered by completing a Registration Form and submitting it to ACT WorkCover by 1 September 2007.
Health and Safety month activities and events were listed free of charge in the Canberra Times advertising feature.
Participation in Health and Safety Month shows commitment and support for workplace safety, and contributes to reducing the pain and cost of workplace injuries.
Health and Safety Month is supported by Safe Work Australia Week.
