About the Education Modules

These modules aim to provide information which will provide a general outline to employers and employees of things they should do in the workplace to reduce the personal and business costs of injuries in the workplace.

The employer is responsible for ensuring the workplace is safe, including:

  • providing safe work areas, machinery and equipment;
  • providing information, instruction, training and supervision; and
  • providing protective equipment.

The employer must ensure the health or safety of the workers and visitors to the workplace are not harmed in any way.

Employees must take responsibility for looking after their own health and safety, and not put others at risk. This includes:

  • following safety instructions;
  • using equipment carefully; and
  • reporting hazards and injuries.

Young workers are usually keen to work hard and do well. They also have a much higher risk of being injured at work than older workers.

National Statistics show that workers who are new to the workplaces are injured more frequently than experienced workers. New workers need to be aware of their rights, to be properly trained, supervised, and provided with a safe and healthy environment.

The first education module has direct application to all industries and workplaces. It is:

  1. ActSafe General Module.

    This module includes guidance: to legislation; health and safety representatives; and, a process for the management of workplace hazards.

    Other modules in the series are focussed on some of the principle health and safety issues in the industries indicated. However, the hazards and issues addressed generally occur in all industries. It is therefore beneficial to become familiar with all of the following modules as they will all have application in every business and workplace.

  2. Retail - selling goods and services;
  3. Hospitality and Tourism - customers;
  4. Office and Business - business paperwork;
  5. Manufacturing - storage and handling.

Safetyline, Western Australia is acknowledged for development of, and agreement to the use of, the material on which these modules are based.
